Nie jestem przesądny, ale to już trzynaście (!) lat kieruję Pracownią Druku Wklęsłego. To niewiele, mając na uwadze chociażby kilkudziesięcioletnią historię Pracowni i katowickiej grafiki w ogóle. Swój szczególny wizerunek i pozycję zawdzięczała moim znakomitym poprzednikom i profesorom. Zachowując szacunek dla tradycji, od jakiegoś czasu przestałem oglądać się za siebie. Liczy się dla mnie dzisiejsza kondycja i dorobek Pracowni, który wspólnie – studenci i pedagodzy – tworzymy. Pozycja Pracowni jest konsekwencją dynamicznego rozwoju Katedry Grafiki Warsztatowej, która z chwilą usamodzielnienia uczelni, zyskała zupełnie nową przestrzeń i możliwości, determinujące zakres i jakość kształcenia. W tym okresie trafiali do Pracowni studenci, których talent, aktywność i oryginalna osobowość potwierdzały się z czasem w dojrzałych realizacjach dyplomowych. Entuzjazm, wzajemne zaufanie sprzyjały zawsze klimatowi swobodnej pracy artystycznej, stając się nadzieją artystycznego spełnienia. Wielu studentów i absolwentów Pracowni Druku Wklęsłego osiągnęło sukcesy. Lista i skala ich graficznych dokonań jest imponująca. Przysłowiowy „deszcz” nagród i wyróżnień związany z ich udziałem w krajowych i międzynarodowych przeglądach grafiki dowiódł, że grafika śląska nie porzucając tradycji, coraz skuteczniej podejmuje dialog z tym, co aktualne w grafice światowej. Organizowane w 2010 roku przez Instytuty Polskie w Düsseldorfie i Mińsku prezentacje grafiki studentów i dyplomantów Pracowni z udziałem moich prac, potwierdziły niejako swoim poziomem artystycznym „markę” katowickiej szkoły grafiki. Sukcesy Pracowni mają niekwestionowany udział w kształtowaniu wizerunku uczelni, współdecydując o jej pozycji w kraju i poza granicami.

I am not superstitious but it has been now thirteen years since I am in charge of the Intaglio Printing Studio. Taking into consideration the history of the Studio which counts for several decades, or the history of graphics of Katowice in general - it is not much. It owed its unique image and strong position to my great predecessors and professors. Having respect for its tradition, some time ago I stopped looking into the past. What is now important is the current condition and artistic output of the Studio which we – students and lecturers – create together. The Studio’s position is a consequence of the Chair of Graphic Art’s rapid development. Since the Chair of Graphic Art became independent it gained completely new sphere and possibilities determining the scope and quality of teaching. During that time many students got to the Studio and their talent, drives and extraordinary characters were confirmed lately in their mature diploma works. Enthusiasm and mutual trust were always conducive to the atmosphere of unrestrained creative work, becoming a hope for an artistic fulfilment. Many students and graduates of the Intaglio Printing Studio achieved successes. The list and scale of their graphic achievements is really impressive. The proverbial “torrent” of awards and distinctions, connected with their participation in national and international reviews of graphic arts, proved that Upper Silesia graphic art is more and more effective in undertaking the dialog with current trends in world’s graphic art, without abandoning the tradition. The exhibitions of the Studio’s students and graduates’ graphic works, with my own works included, were organised by the Polish Institutes in Düsseldorf and Minsk in 2010, and their high level somehow confirmed the artistic “brand” of our Academy. The Studio’s achievements have their unquestionable share in creating the image of the Academy and therefore influence its position in Poland and abroad.
